Helpful ways to beat holiday blues

The holidays can be wonderful, but for many, it can be the loneliest time of the year. It’s easy to understand why! Along with holidays comes joy, celebration, reflection, family, and fun. The holidays also come with stress, anxiety, disappointment, and regret.

There are several ways to combat holiday blues, but our favorites involve furry friends.

1. Make time to exercise
Set aside just 20 minutes each day and involve your pet! Whether you go for a jog, play fetch or start a dance party for 2, boosting your heart beats is beneficial for you both. The accountability is also helpful, and you’ll bring so much joy to your pet!

2. Volunteer together

- Try donating supplies to a local pet shelter. Once you’re through, you can even tour the facility (and maybe take home a pet of your own!) Pro tip: call ahead and see what they’re in need of. Things like blankets, towels, pet food, cleaning supplies, and pet beds are always good bets, but better to be safe and check beforehand.
- Volunteer with your pet at a hospital or nursing home. Pets are known to help with healing, so you’ll be providing an amazing gift to those in need.

3. Get Creative

Stepping outside of your normal routine is a sure-fire way to bring a healthy jolt of excitement to your brain. Follow your bliss by making holiday treats (cookies for you, bones for your bestie) or designing stockings (add a paw print for Penelope).
